Purpose & Mission
The mission of the Department of Inspections is to assure the health and safety of the people who live, work, and otherwise make use of all structures by the consistent and thorough enforcement of the Uniform Construction Code (UCC), as adopted by the State of New Jersey, as well as the West Deptford Township Zoning Ordinance, the International Property Maintenance Code (2018), and other regulations as the Township of West Deptford adopts.

 The responsibilities of the Department of Inspections include:

 -      Construction code enforcement;
-       Certificate of Continued Use and Occupancy (resale inspection of property prior to sale or re-occupancy);
-       Zoning code enforcement;
-       Property maintenance enforcement;
-       Rental registration and inspection;
-       Vacant and abandoned properties registration

Division Of Construction
(Serving West Deptford Township,  Woodbury City & Woodbury Heights Borough)
The Division is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the Uniform Construction Code (UCC).  The UCC dictates what building codes are to be used in the design and construction of the new buildings, additions, alterations, reconstruction, etc. of residential and non-residential structures.  The Division issues construction permits and conducts necessary inspections to verify the work performed is compliant with all applicable codes.

Division Of Code Enforcement & Property Maintenance
The Division is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the Township’s Property Maintenance Code.  The Division enforces the International Property Maintenance Code (2018) adopted by the International Code Council (ICC), as well as other Township Ordinances.  The Division is also responsible for the administration and enforcement of the Township's Vacant & Abandoned Property Registry and regulations.  

Division Of Housing
The Division is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the Township’s Housing Code and scheduling inspections for change of occupancy for rental properties within the Township (all non-owner-occupied residential rental properties) and all inspection for resale of property (property transfer) prior to settlement.

Division Of Planning & Zoning
The Division is responsible for the administration of all applications for development, which require municipal approvals such as subdivisions, site plans and variances.  The Township’s Zoning Ordinance, Land Use Procedures and Subdivision & Site Plan ordinances provide procedural, and bulk and use regulations for all zoning districts with the Township.   As such, the Division is responsible for the administration of the Planning Board and the Zoning Board of Adjustment, as well as oversight of all long-range planning initiatives, such as the Township’s Master Plan, the Township's Zoning Map and other planning documents (e.g. – redevelopment plans, Master Plan elements, regional plans).

The Division is also responsible for the administration and enforcement of the Township’s Zoning Ordinance including the issuance or denial of Zoning Permits.

Bureau Of Fire Prevention
The Division is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code and the Fire Protection Subcode requirements of the UCC including annual fire inspections of all non-residential properties within the Township and inspections for non-residential Certificates of Occupancy (COs).
